Job Overview: The position of Ambulance Driver at the UN Health Care Centre involves providing essential transportation services for patients in need of medical attention. The driver will be responsible for ensuring that ambulances reach patients swiftly and safely, adhering to instructions from medical personnel. The role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of service, including timely responses to emergencies and effective communication with medical staff. The driver will also be responsible for the upkeep of the ambulance and ensuring that it is always ready for use. Duties and Responsibilities: The Ambulance Driver will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to: transporting patients to hospitals or other designated locations within Addis Ababa, following the instructions of physicians and nurses; ensuring safe and comfortable driving practices; assisting medical teams with stretcher changes and first aid when necessary; maintaining a daily log of incidents and interactions; delivering parcels and documents between UN offices; performing routine vehicle maintenance; and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations. The driver will also be responsible for facilitating airport security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security clearances for medical evacuations and ensuring that all necessary protocols are followed in the event of an accident.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a valid third-level driver’s license. Additional qualifications such as automotive certificates, defensive driving training, and certifications in First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) are highly advantageous. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a strong client orientation, ensuring that all service recipients are treated with respect and care.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Additional training in driving and emergency medical services is preferred, as it enhances the candidate's ability to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a driver with a proven safe driving record is required. Candidates should have experience operating various types of vehicles, including vans and ambulances. Experience in emergency medical transportation is considered an advantage, as it directly relates to the responsibilities of the role.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French or another official UN language is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of clients and colleagues.
