Job Overview:
The position of Pedagogical Specialist is integral to the implementation of the Horizontes Amazonía program, which aims to provide comprehensive educational proposals for adolescents in the Amazon regions of Peru. The specialist will work closely with two targeted educational institutions in Nieva, Condorcanqui, Amazonas, to enhance the pedagogical capacities of teachers and school leaders. The role involves providing technical and pedagogical support, ensuring effective curriculum planning, and fostering community participation. The specialist will also focus on promoting socio-emotional well-being and intercultural dialogue within the educational framework. This position requires a proactive approach to educational challenges in rural and intercultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate teaching methodologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Pedagogical Specialist will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing technical assistance and pedagogical support to teachers in the planning of annual and unit-based lessons, integrating various curricular areas through project-based learning.
  • Advising educators on incorporating local issues and challenges into their curriculum planning, ensuring relevance to the community context.
  • Facilitating workshops aimed at strengthening the capacities of teachers and school administrators, focusing on the components and approaches of the Horizontes Amazonía program.
  • Promoting student participation and community engagement in educational processes, fostering a supportive and safe school environment.
  • Collaborating with local institutions and stakeholders to enhance educational outcomes and student well-being.
  • Monitoring and reporting on pedagogical progress, identifying gaps and needs for further support.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and contributing to the overall goals of the UNESCO Education Sector in Peru.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Education or a related field, with a focus on secondary education or bilingual intercultural education. Specialized training in pedagogical accompaniment or school management is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of active learning methodologies and experience in implementing project-based learning in educational settings. A minimum of three years of professional experience in educational contexts, particularly in rural or intercultural environments, is required. Proven experience in pedagogical support and participation in at least two educational projects or consultancies is essential.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor's degree in Education, Political Science, or a related field. Further specialization in secondary education, bilingual intercultural education, or pedagogical accompaniment is preferred. Candidates with advanced degrees or certifications in educational management or curriculum development will be given priority.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in the field of education. Candidates should have at least one year of documented experience working in the Amazon region or similar rural and intercultural contexts. Experience in pedagogical accompaniment and the application of active learning methodologies, particularly in project-based learning, is essential, with a minimum of two projects or consultancies demonstrating this experience.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of instruction and communication in the educational institutions involved. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly indigenous languages of the Amazon region, would be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse communities and educational contexts.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is a consultant contract lasting eight months, subject to budget availability and satisfactory performance evaluation. The role is open to external candidates, and the selected individual must be available for travel within Peru as required by the program. Travel costs will be covered by the program in accordance with UNESCO's internal regulations. The position does not include expectations for renewal or conversion to another type of contract, nor does it provide coverage for medical services.
