Job Overview: The Electronics Technician position at CERN involves contributing to the production and maintenance of electronics for the quench detection system. This role encompasses a variety of tasks, including component ordering, production preparation, soldering, and interventions on installations. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Electronics Technician include:
Preparing the production of electronic prototypes, ensuring all necessary components are available and ready for assembly.
Purchasing electronics components, maintaining an organized inventory, and ensuring timely procurement to meet production schedules.
Installing electronics in test benches and racks, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to safety standards.
Performing soldering and assembly work on prototypes, which may involve both hand soldering and reflow techniques.
Assembling cables and connectors, ensuring high-quality connections and compliance with specifications.
Collaborating with team members to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the production process.
Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with occupational health standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess experience with electronics assembly and soldering, with hand soldering and/or reflow experience being an asset. A strong knowledge of electronics components is essential, along with mechanics assembly skills for crates. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to learning French, as spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Eligibility criteria include being a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and having a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics technician or a related field. Applicants must have a general secondary education diploma and have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Those with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite, requiring the selected candidate to work in radiation areas and perform interventions in underground installations. A valid driving license is necessary, and candidates must be aware of the potential exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain conditions. Due to the occupational health risks associated with this role, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
