This position not only involves driving but also encompasses a range of logistical and administrative responsibilities. The incumbent is expected to maintain high standards of discretion and integrity while providing driving services. The role requires the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines, ensuring that all transportation and logistical needs are met efficiently. The Senior Driver / Security Clerk will also be involved in security assessments and management, working closely with the Regional Safety and Security Officer to ensure the safety of ILO operations in Sudan. This position is vital for facilitating communication and coordination among various stakeholders involved in the program, thereby contributing to the overall success of the initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Driver / Security Clerk include:
Driving and Logistics: Providing safe and reliable driving services to the Chief Technical Adviser (CTA), senior program officials, project staff, and authorized visitors. Meeting officials and visitors at the airport and assisting with protocol, visa, and customs formalities. Arranging for the procurement, shipment, and receipt of office supplies and equipment, including customs clearance. Providing messenger services and managing the mailing, collection, and distribution of documents. Ensuring all required documents and supplies are available in assigned vehicles, including insurance, registration, and maintenance logs. Keeping accurate records of vehicle use, maintenance, and repairs.
Safety and Security Support: Assisting in security assessments and management, liaising with host government security organizations, and ensuring the safety of ILO operations. Maintaining confidential security documentation and managing the ILO warden system. Reporting security incidents and preparing security reports.
Administrative Support: Providing clerical and administrative support, including typing, filing, and making reservations. Assisting with IT-related tasks and maintaining inventory lists of equipment. Processing requests for visas and other documentation as required. Performing additional duties as requested by the CTA or SSO.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A valid driver’s license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Certification in basic first aid and fire protection is required, while training in defensive driving is considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant work experience with a safe driving record. Experience driving for a UN agency, diplomatic, or international organization is preferred, along with general clerical work experience. Experience in security, particularly in military or police contexts, is advantageous.
Competencies: Proven ability to drive safely in local traffic conditions, including during conflict situations. Familiarity with security protocols and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Knowledge of local roads, driving rules, and vehicle management is required. Administrative competence in office procedures and record-keeping is also necessary.
