Job Overview:
The Finance Assistant position is crucial for supporting the Area Office in Aden, ensuring that all financial transactions are executed accurately, compliantly, and in a timely manner. This role is integral to maintaining financial accountability and transparency within NRC's operations in Yemen. The Finance Assistant will be responsible for implementing finance activities at the Area Office level, adhering to NRC policies and procedures, and ensuring that all financial transactions align with donor regulations and internal control procedures. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying financial risks and discrepancies, as well as effective communication and coordination between finance and program teams to facilitate smooth operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Assistant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: adhering to NRC policies and financial handbooks; supporting the implementation of finance activities in line with the Area Office plan; ensuring accurate and compliant processing of financial transactions; maintaining organized filing systems for financial documentation; contributing to internal controls and accountability; assisting during audits and internal reviews; maintaining accurate bank and cash accounts; conducting cash counts; processing payments for the Hodeida Area Office; verifying supporting documentation; recording financial transactions in the financial system; filing and archiving financial documents; liaising with banks regarding payments; facilitating cheque handling; processing field office payment requests; participating in asset inventories; temporarily assuming duties of other finance team members; and performing any other finance-related tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager or Area Finance Officer.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in finance, preferably within NGOs or similar organizations. Candidates should have experience working in complex and volatile contexts and must demonstrate documented results related to financial responsibilities. A basic working knowledge of English, both written and verbal, is essential. Additionally, candidates should possess a good understanding of donor compliance and financial controls, experience in cash handling and bank reconciliation, and familiarity with financial systems is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Finance Assistant has the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the financial duties required by the position effectively.

Experience:
The Finance Assistant position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in finance, particularly in the context of NGOs or similar organizations. This experience should include working in challenging environments and managing financial responsibilities effectively. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to handle financial transactions and maintain compliance with established policies and procedures.

Languages:
A basic working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position, both written and verbal. While English proficiency is essential, additional language skills relevant to the local context may be considered advantageous, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries.
