Job Overview:
The Regional Industry Director (RID) for the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is a pivotal leadership role within IFC, responsible for overseeing FIG activities across Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. The RID will engage with a diverse range of sub-sectors, including Banking, Microfinance, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, and Global Trade Finance. The position requires a strong focus on themes such as job creation, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs/SMEs), gender equality, climate change, and other critical areas. The RID will lead regional teams, manage key client and government relationships, and drive business operations to achieve IFC's strategic objectives. Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President for Latin America & the Caribbean and Europe, the RID will also be a member of the Core Leadership Team, contributing to the overall strategic direction and operational effectiveness of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Industry Director include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing and implementing the FIG strategy and priorities in collaboration with Division Directors, Country Managers, and other Regional Industry Directors, focusing on business growth, profitability, and sustainable developmental impact.
  • Leading and expanding the FIG business in the regions, ensuring sound financial performance and high developmental impact in origination and portfolio management.
  • Strategically positioning the FIG business in Latin America and Europe, working closely with the Regional Vice President and other stakeholders to develop country-specific strategies.
  • Chairing Investment Review Meetings and making critical decisions regarding IFC investments in the regions.
  • Overseeing Upstream and Advisory engagements for FIG, ensuring alignment with regional strategies.
  • Contributing to the execution of the FIG regional equity strategy in collaboration with senior management.
  • Partnering with IBRD/IDA and MIGA to formulate regional sector strategies.
  • Collaborating with the Knowledge Bank, Treasury teams, and other WBG partners to develop and disseminate knowledge products and best practices.
  • Designing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for business development and client management in the region. 1
  • Representing IFC to key clients and stakeholders, building and maintaining long-term relationships with public sector institutions, multilateral development banks (MDBs), donors, and investors. 1
  • Supervising FIG Managers and acting as a secondary supervisor for other FIG staff, implementing corporate initiatives to enhance efficiency and client service.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Regional Industry Director position should possess a master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification in economics, finance, or business, along with at least 15 years of relevant experience. A strong commitment to the mission, strategy, and values of the World Bank Group and IFC is essential. The candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of business delivery, investment experience, and superior business judgment, with professional credibility across financial sector institutions and markets. Strong knowledge of capital markets and experience leading investment decision processes are crucial, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. The candidate should also exhibit strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and the capacity to represent the organization effectively to external clients and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a master’s degree or an equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field such as economics, finance, or business. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of financial institutions and the broader economic landscape in which they operate.

Experience:
The position requires at least 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, with a strong emphasis on investment and business development. Candidates should have a proven ability to lead and manage large teams in dynamic, multicultural environments, demonstrating excellent people management skills and the capacity to deliver results under pressure.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Spanish is preferred. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is essential for engaging with diverse stakeholders across the regions.
