The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) was established to address the critical issue of missing persons in Syria, as mandated by the General Assembly in its resolution 77/30

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Data and Digital Analysis Section (DDAS) of the IIMP. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Open-Source Analyst and will receive overall guidance from the Section Chief of DDAS. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with a team of analysts, investigators, and information management officers, contributing to the organization's mission of addressing the plight of missing persons in Syria. The intern will be involved in conducting targeted open-source research, analyzing relevant topics, and preparing analytical reports. This position requires a commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, as the intern may interact with victims and families who have experienced significant trauma. The intern will also need to stay informed about the evolving situation in Syria and share pertinent information with the team, thereby playing a crucial role in the organization's efforts to support affected individuals and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include: (1) Conducting targeted open-source research and analysis on topics relevant to the IIMP's mandate; (2) Contributing to the preparation of analytical reports and other work products, including translation as needed; (3) Reviewing and archiving information and documentation collected; (4) Assisting with interviews or engagements with victims, survivors, and families of missing persons; (5) Keeping abreast of the situation in Syria and sharing relevant information with the team; (6) Demonstrating professionalism and discretion in all tasks; (7) Completing assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner; (8) Maintaining confidentiality of all records and information accessed during the internship; (9) Upholding respect for colleagues and stakeholders, particularly when interacting with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds; (10) Displaying a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to its principles.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme or have completed such programs. Proof of meeting these criteria must be attached to the application.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. A field of study that is closely related to the internship is essential, and applicants must provide proof of their academic status. This could include transcripts or official letters from educational institutions confirming enrollment or completion of relevant degrees.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, familiarity with open-source research and investigation methodologies is essential. Any academic or professional experience in online research and analysis of open-source intelligence, particularly from social media, is highly desirable. Experience in a multicultural international work environment is considered an asset, and applicants are encouraged to provide examples of such experiences in their applications.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is required for this internship, as well as proficiency in English. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
