Job Overview:
The Associate Banker position at the EBRD in Istanbul is a pivotal role within the Infrastructure Sector team in Turkey. The successful candidate will report directly to the Country Head and will be involved in various phases of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, negotiations, execution, and monitoring. The Associate Banker will be responsible for conducting comprehensive due diligence, ensuring compliance with EBRD policies, and participating in legal analysis and documentation. This role also encompasses elements of business development, client management, and policy dialogue, requiring a proactive approach to project development and execution. The Associate Banker will work closely with senior bankers and will have opportunities to grow into more senior roles as they gain experience and expertise in transaction management and project implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Banker will have a range of responsibilities under the guidance of the operation leader or a more senior banker. Key duties include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborating with project teams on transactions, ensuring high-quality project due diligence, preparing internal documentation, and managing technical cooperation assistance.
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Overseeing project implementation, compliance with agreements, and preparing monitoring reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Business Development: Assisting with marketing and business development efforts to enhance the EBRD's presence and impact in the region. The role is designed to foster transaction expertise and expand responsibilities, potentially leading to a position as an operation leader on standard transactions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, and proficiency in Turkish is strongly preferred.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices relevant to the role. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are also advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to the financial industry.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the financial industry, which may include roles in investment or commercial banking, private equity, asset management, or auditing/financial consulting. Experience in project finance and corporate finance is essential, along with practical experience in managing transactions throughout the project life cycle. Familiarity with the Turkish infrastructure market, including social infrastructure and public-private partnerships (PPPs), is preferred and will enhance the candidate's ability to contribute effectively to the team.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills. A good command of the Turkish language, both oral and written, is strongly preferred, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance project execution.
