Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Nationally Determined Contributions Act & Invest initiative (NDC Act & Invest), which aims to provide targeted, science-based, and policy-aligned technical assistance to help countries implement priority NDC measures and secure necessary funding. This position is situated within the Climate Change Division’s Mitigation Branch, specifically in the Policy and Planning Unit (PPU). The consultant will be responsible for enhancing UNEP's visibility and influence with various stakeholders, including policymakers and the private sector, by raising awareness about innovative solutions that accelerate climate investments. The consultant will also support knowledge management, communication, and digital outreach for all NDC Act & Invest-related activities, ensuring a strong digital presence and consistent messaging across platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include maintaining and updating the NDC Act & Invest website and UNEP NDC webpage, ensuring that content is accessible, accurate, and timely. They will act as a communications focal point for NDC-related work within the Climate Change Division, collaborating closely with UNEP Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement specialists. The consultant will support the development of digital content, knowledge materials, and communication products that promote the NDC Act & Invest initiative. They will also assist with priority climate deliverables, overseeing the editing, design, and layout of reports and related assets. Additionally, the consultant will support the web presence and content rollout for high-visibility NDC moments and major events, and provide ad hoc support in communications and knowledge management as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Communications, Environmental Management, Political Sciences, International Relations, or related fields. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, program management, or a related field is required. Experience in communications, event management, or coordination of outreach and dissemination activities is also necessary. Furthermore, candidates should have experience working with public institutions, international organizations, or cooperation projects, with a preference for those who have worked with the United Nations, particularly UNEP. Knowledge of UNEP’s work on NDCs and experience in organizing major international climate events are desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Communications, Environmental Management, Political Sciences, or International Relations. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of environmental policies and communication strategies necessary for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, program management, or a related field. Candidates should have a proven track record in communications, event management, or coordination of outreach and dissemination activities. Experience working with public institutions, international organizations, or cooperation projects is essential, with a preference for candidates who have experience with the United Nations and UNEP.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the organization and with external stakeholders.
