Job Overview: The Technical Support Specialist position at WFP is designed to provide specialized support and technical analyses to policy and program activities that effectively meet food assistance needs. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that food assistance programs are aligned with WFP's policies and guidelines. The specialist will be responsible for project management support, data analysis, and reporting on food assistance needs, resource utilization, and program performance. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the specific area of work, ensuring alignment with wider program policies and guidelines.
Offer specialized project management support to specific programs, ensuring activities are performed within established targets and in accordance with WFP's policies and procedures.
Prepare a range of reports and conduct data analysis related to food assistance needs, resource utilization, and program performance, ensuring adherence to corporate standards and quality control.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of data within the specific technical area of work, maintaining consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration and monitoring of ongoing project activities.
Coordinate with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government institutions to perform food security analyses and ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.
Support capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners, and national government within the specific technical area.
Act as a point of contact for resolving operational queries and problems within the specific technical area of responsibility.
Oversee and review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance to meet objectives to agreed standards and deadlines. 1
Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area, along with completion of secondary school education. The role requires six or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the relevant business stream, particularly in general administrative work. Knowledge of technical teams and experience in program implementation are essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. Additionally, candidates should hold a post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area, which may include fields such as project management, food security, or humanitarian assistance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible work experience in a relevant business stream. This experience should include general administrative work and may also encompass roles that involve technical support, project management, and collaboration with various stakeholders in humanitarian contexts.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station is mandatory. If the duty station's language differs, proficiency in that language is also required. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This is a Fixed Term, Full Time position with a contract duration of 12 months, which is eligible for extension based on satisfactory performance and operational requirements. The duty station is located in Roseau, Dominica, and the selected candidate may be required to travel regionally and internationally to support missions, emergency responses, and training. Full medical clearance will be necessary for travel.
