Job Overview:
The Nutrition Consultant position is crucial in addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where over 27 million people face acute food insecurity, and millions of children suffer from malnutrition. The consultant will provide technical and operational support across the nutrition portfolio, focusing on the design, implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance of nutrition programs. This role requires flexibility to adapt to evolving program priorities and will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including government counterparts and implementing partners. The consultant will report to the Nutrition Officer (P3) based in Kinshasa and will play a vital role in ensuring that nutrition interventions are effective and aligned with WFP's policies and national protocols. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nutrition Consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Contributing to the development of nutrition projects and activities, ensuring alignment with WFP nutrition policies and national protocols.
  • Providing technical support for the design and implementation of nutrition interventions, including managing acute malnutrition and integrating nutrition into other sectors.
  • Supporting project management for specific nutrition projects, ensuring coordination with wider WFP programs.
  • Gathering and analyzing data to maintain rigorous quality standards and support reporting activities.
  • Liaising with internal and external partners to monitor ongoing projects and ensure effective collaboration.
  • Providing technical inputs on food systems approaches and optimizing nutritional adequacy in food assistance programs.
  • Supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners, including the development of training materials.
  • Undertaking field missions to assess the quality of nutrition interventions and provide on-site technical guidance.
  • Contributing to communication efforts regarding WFP nutrition programs and preparing internal and external reports. 1
  • Acting in an emergency response capacity as required to meet urgent nutrition assistance needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience in implementing national or international emergency and development programs in nutrition. Knowledge and skills in public health, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, and nutrition-related activities are essential. Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in nutrition is also required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database software. Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, or Medicine is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively address complex nutrition issues and implement effective interventions in challenging environments.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in nutrition, particularly in the context of emergency and development programs. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in public health and food security, as well as experience in identifying and addressing nutrition issues within a country. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes in nutrition is also essential to ensure high-quality standards in program implementation.

Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is crucial for effective communication with stakeholders, partners, and team members in a multicultural environment.

The contract for this position is for 11 months, with the possibility of renewal depending on funding and organizational needs.
