Job Overview: The Technical Advisor (TA) for Mental Health and Psychosocial Services (MHPSS) will play a crucial role in supporting the Mental Health and Psychosocial Service initiatives within the Resettlement, Asylum and Integration department (RAI) of the IRC. This position is designed to enhance the capacity of IRC RAI offices and other service providers in the U.S. to deliver high-quality mental health and psychosocial support services to refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced individuals and families. The TA will be responsible for integrating evidence-based practices and strategies to address barriers that hinder access to safety and wellness services for these communities. The role includes the development of training materials and resources aimed at increasing the internal and external capacity to support individuals and families who have faced forced displacement, trauma, and migration-related stress. The TA will also be expected to engage in collaborative efforts to ensure that the services provided are culturally and linguistically appropriate, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the programs offered.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Advisor will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Providing technical assistance to RAI offices and other service agencies on best practices, interventions, and resources related to mental health, psychosocial support, women’s protection and empowerment, and trauma-informed case management for forcibly displaced communities.
Developing and disseminating guidelines and resources for community outreach and education on mental health and psychosocial support.
Managing the dissemination and replication of MHPSS interventions.
Creating and delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate training and materials tailored to the needs of forcibly displaced communities.
Contributing to the development of a diverse workforce by enhancing the capacity of staff to deliver effective mental health and psychosocial support services.
Building and maintaining relationships with various RAI office teams and external service agencies to support forcibly displaced individuals and families effectively.
Strengthening partnerships with RAI office teams and external service providers to gather and integrate feedback for resource development.
Conducting ongoing analysis of program activities and supporting monitoring and evaluation efforts to adjust approaches as necessary.
Supporting business development initiatives at the field level, including proposal development and funding opportunities. 1
Actively participating in team meetings and staff development activities, fully engaging as a team member. 1
Adhering to all IRC organizational policies, procedures, and protocols, including professional and ethical standards, client confidentiality, and privacy practices. 1
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Technical Advisor position will possess the following qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related mental health field, with independent licensure preferred.
At least five years of relevant work experience in MHPSS.
Experience in delivering survivor-centered services, particularly to survivors of intimate partner violence.
Demonstrated experience working with refugee and asylum populations.
Strong expertise in understanding the impacts of trauma on individuals, families, and children.
Proven ability to provide technical support and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A self-starter with strong project management skills, capable of prioritizing and managing competing demands effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related mental health field. Independent licensure in the relevant field is preferred, indicating a higher level of professional qualification and expertise in mental health practices.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in mental health and psychosocial support services, with a focus on working with refugee and asylum populations. Candidates should have a strong background in delivering survivor-centered services and a demonstrated understanding of the impacts of trauma on diverse populations, particularly those who have experienced forced displacement.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in another language relevant to refugee and asylum populations is preferred, as it will enhance communication and service delivery to diverse communities.
Additional Notes: This position is currently 100% remote, allowing for flexibility in work location. The compensation for this role ranges from $45.00 to $65.00 per hour, depending on various factors such as the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations. The exact offer will be calibrated based on the work location and the individual candidate's experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
