Job Overview: The primary purpose of the Driver position is to provide reliable transportation services to the Field office located in Mantapala, Luapula Province. This role involves ensuring the mechanical service of vehicles and maintaining proper insurance coverage. The driver will be responsible for safely transporting staff and visitors, adhering to traffic rules, and ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. The position requires the driver to maintain the cleanliness and operational readiness of the vehicle, perform routine inspections and maintenance, and keep accurate records of vehicle usage and maintenance schedules. The driver will also be expected to assist in planning and controlling regular vehicle services and report any issues or accidents promptly to the supervisor. This role is crucial in supporting the organization's operations and ensuring that transportation needs are met efficiently and safely.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties: driving program vehicles as directed by the coordinator, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for staff and visitors; observing traffic rules and maintaining road discipline; driving long distances with or without program staff when required; ensuring that the vehicle is clean and in good order, with all documentation such as insurance and road licenses up to date; performing routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checking oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, water levels, and tire pressures; reporting any damage or abnormal conditions of the vehicle; keeping track of maintenance records to adhere to service schedules; filling out necessary forms and making timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences; taking necessary steps in case of accidents and reporting any defects or malfunctions that require immediate attention; checking the daily status and availability of spare parts, jacks, and tools; performing minor repairs, changing tires, refueling the vehicle as required, and ensuring cleanliness; ensuring that ACF vehicles are used only for official business and reporting any unauthorized incidents; delivering parcels, letters, and other relevant items to offices and businesses as appropriate; and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications: an Advanced Driving Certificate; a Secondary School Certificate with a PASS grade; a valid driver’s license class C; proof of good driving records; and the ability to communicate in basic English. Additionally, candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position, with previous experience working with an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, be trustworthy, possess a high sense of responsibility, and exhibit emotional stability, neatness, and courtesy. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, adaptability, excellent organizational and planning skills, and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment while multitasking are also essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must have an Advanced Driving Certificate and a Secondary School Certificate with a PASS grade. These educational qualifications ensure that the candidate has the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the driver effectively.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar driving position is required. Candidates with previous experience working with an INGO will have an added advantage, as this experience will provide familiarity with the operational context and expectations of the role.
Languages: The ability to communicate in basic English is mandatory for this position. This skill is essential for effective communication with staff and stakeholders, ensuring that instructions and safety protocols are understood and followed.
