Job Overview:
The Photographer position is crucial for the Office of Communications (OCC) at FAO, focusing on enhancing the organization's image and visibility through high-quality photographic and video production. The role involves providing photographic coverage for various FAO events, including field visits, conferences, and workshops, using professional 35mm digital equipment. The Photographer will also be responsible for processing digital files, ensuring compliance with FAO's workflow and guidelines, and managing digital assets effectively. This position requires a blend of technical skills in photography and multimedia production, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. The Photographer will collaborate closely with the OCC team to ensure that all communication materials align with FAO standards and messaging.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Photographer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Providing timely and high-quality photographic coverage of FAO events, such as field visits, portraits, conferences, and workshops.
  • Processing digital files according to FAO workflow and guidelines, ensuring complete metadata and English captions.
  • Uploading edited materials to the FAO Digital Media Hub and managing collections.
  • Producing same-day photo prints and delivering them to the Photo Library.
  • Digitizing analogue materials and managing photo research requests.
  • Supporting field mission organization and coordinating with external service providers.
  • Operating video cameras and editing video recordings as needed.
  • Providing technical advice and training to team members.
  • Ensuring compliance with FAO standards and guidelines in all communication materials.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • For Consultants: An advanced university degree in communication, social sciences, journalism, political science, or a related field from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have two additional years of relevant professional experience.
  • For PSAs: A technical degree or certificate in communication, social sciences, journalism, political science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in photography, including photo editing, metadata processing, and multimedia production.
  • A working knowledge of English at a proficient level (C).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in communication, social sciences, journalism, political science, or a related field. For those applying as PSAs, a technical degree or certificate in a relevant field is acceptable. Candidates with a bachelor's degree must have additional professional experience to qualify.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in photography, which includes expertise in photo editing, metadata processing, and multimedia production. Candidates should have experience working with international media outlets, UN agencies, or recognized photo and news agencies. Experience in documentary, news, and event photography is essential, along with familiarity with video production processes.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C. Knowledge of other FAO languages and/or Italian is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.

This position is full-time and may require flexibility to work beyond regular office hours, including weekends and holidays. Candidates should be prepared for potential travel and must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
