Job Overview: The position involves translating RCCE-IM (Risk Communication and Community Engagement - Infodemic Management) training materials into French. The translator will work closely with WHO/Europe's capacity-building initiatives, which aim to enhance the ability of countries to respond to health emergencies. The translation task is expected to take approximately 6 to 8 days, during which the translator will ensure that the French versions of the materials meet high-quality standards. This includes not only translating the text but also conducting a thorough accuracy check to ensure clarity and natural phrasing. The ultimate goal is to have the translated materials ready for use by the end of May, enabling effective communication and preparedness in French-speaking contexts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Translate RCCE-IM training materials from English to French, ensuring linguistic accuracy and clarity.
Conduct a full accuracy check of the translated materials to ensure they meet high-quality standards.
Collaborate with WHO/Europe team members to understand the context and nuances of the materials being translated.
Ensure that the translated content is culturally appropriate and relevant for French-speaking audiences.
Adhere to deadlines and provide updates on the progress of the translation work.
Participate in discussions and feedback sessions to refine the translated materials as needed.
Assist in the development of a realistic timeline for the translation process in collaboration with WHO staff.
Required Qualifications:
Native-level proficiency in French, with excellent command of English.
Strong background in translation, particularly in health-related topics or training materials.
Familiarity with RCCE-IM concepts and terminology is highly desirable.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A degree in translation, linguistics, public health, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in translation or relevant training in health communication may be advantageous.
Experience: Previous experience in translating health-related materials or working with international organizations is preferred. Familiarity with the WHO's mission and objectives, as well as experience in capacity-building initiatives, will be considered an asset.
Languages: Mandatory: Native-level French and excellent English proficiency. Good to have: Knowledge of other languages relevant to the WHO European Region would be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position with an estimated time commitment of 6 to 8 days. The translator will work remotely and will be required to submit the completed translation by the end of May.
