The Senior Security Assistant will be responsible for assessing security threats and risks, compiling relevant reports, and providing support in decision-making processes. This position requires close coordination with local authorities, UN security personnel, and other stakeholders to facilitate safe program execution. The role also includes planning and conducting security missions, preparing detailed security assessments, and implementing risk management measures. The Senior Security Assistant will play a key role in maintaining updated security plans and ensuring compliance with established security protocols. Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in evaluating security threats and risks by compiling relevant reports on trends and situations that may negatively impact WFP operations, ensuring that the information supports report preparation and decision-making.
Analyze security-related information (e.g., security incidents, daily security support) and utilize institutional or local information management tools to produce basic analyses and reports, ensuring relevant stakeholders have easy access to this information.
Liaise closely with UNDSS, local and regional authorities, UN security personnel, INGOs, and other agents to facilitate coordination and access for program execution under safe conditions and mitigate risks threatening personnel and resources.
Assist in planning, coordinating, preparing, and conducting field missions, including monitoring personnel on mission and conducting periodic security situation assessments to support safe and effective program operations.
Prepare detailed post-mission security assessment reports containing recommendations to mitigate risks, contributing to security situation analysis and facilitating decision-making.
Assist in implementing and monitoring all security risk management measures established in respective security plans, ensuring compliance with minimum mitigation measures.
Help manage and maintain security equipment and identify new needs to strengthen technological capacity in line with operational demands.
Keep security plans updated, including updating personnel and eligible dependents lists registered at the destination; ensure fire safety arrangements are implemented; and ensure evacuation plans are current and executed.
Assist in identifying security training needs to plan and implement relevant training to meet staff development needs. 1
Conduct security assessments and provide advice on security measures for WFP offices and staff residences. 1
Implement security measures related to gender inclusion and disability, among others. 1
Develop security analyses based on cross-referenced information, identifying risk factors for WFP operations, elements, and personnel.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education is required. A post-secondary education certificate in a relevant functional area is desirable.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in security operations support.
Experience in information analysis and handling various communication equipment.
Familiarity with technical procedures related to security operations and protocols is essential.
Previous work experience in an international organization or within the UN system is an advantage.
Knowledge of daily tasks and work methods to complete processes with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of individuals.
Capacity to detect data discrepancies and resolve issues requiring attention.
