Job Overview: The Technical Specialist position is crucial for developing and implementing quality assurance and quality improvement strategies within the nutrition portfolio of EpiC, focusing on pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age. The Specialist will be responsible for conducting assessments and reviews, providing technical guidance to stakeholders at both national and subnational levels, and enhancing the delivery of life-saving health services. This role requires collaboration with government entities, local implementing partners, and FHI 360 technical focal points to ensure effective program implementation and adherence to quality standards. The Specialist will also analyze program data to identify areas for improvement and contribute to the preparation of various program reports and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Specialist will oversee the technical implementation of life-saving health interventions across Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Key responsibilities include contributing to technical strategies in areas such as integrated management of acute malnutrition, community-based screening, and capacity strengthening of health facilities. The Specialist will liaise with FHI 360 headquarters and regional experts to ensure high-quality inputs, support local implementing partners in developing and monitoring work plans and budgets, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements. Additionally, the Specialist will conduct data quality assessments, prepare reports, and guide partners in achieving technical and reporting requirements for FHI 360 and its stakeholders. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or Country Representative as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, medicine, social science, behavioral science, or epidemiology, along with at least 3 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience in development programming is acceptable. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal supervision, manage high-volume workflows, and possess a strong understanding of national nutrition program components. Experience in public health program implementation, establishing partnerships, and working within diverse teams is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are also required.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, nutrition, medicine, social science, behavioral science, or epidemiology is required. A Bachelor’s degree in these fields is acceptable if accompanied by sufficient relevant experience. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of health service delivery and program management in the context of nutrition and public health.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in development programming, particularly in planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience in public health programs, especially those related to nutrition, is highly desirable. The ability to work effectively in a virtual environment and manage multiple tasks across various programmatic areas is crucial. Experience in building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders and consortium partners is also important.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Nepali is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to document and report findings effectively in both languages is essential. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
