Job Overview: The Midwife – Mobile Health Team position is crucial for providing maternal, newborn, and reproductive health services to communities affected by crises, including natural disasters and armed conflicts. The midwife will be part of a mobile health team that operates in various regions, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other areas. The role involves delivering antenatal and postnatal care, basic obstetric services, and newborn care, as well as family planning services and breastfeeding support. The midwife will work closely with local health offices and community partners to ensure continuity of care and proper referral pathways. This position also includes conducting health education sessions for pregnant and lactating women, participating in emergency health response activities, and maintaining accurate health records in accordance with national health standards and humanitarian guidelines. The midwife's work will significantly contribute to improving access to quality maternal and newborn health services and strengthening community-based health systems in the target areas.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Midwife – Mobile Health Team will have a range of technical responsibilities, including providing maternal and newborn care services during mobile clinic activities, conducting pregnancy assessments, and identifying high-risk pregnancies for referral. The midwife will support family planning services and counseling, provide newborn care and breastfeeding support, and conduct nutrition screenings for pregnant and lactating women and children. Additionally, the midwife will ensure adherence to infection prevention and control protocols, maintain accurate maternal and child health records, and assist in planning and implementing mobile health and maternal health activities. The midwife will also prepare and submit activity reports and support data collection for monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) and donor reporting requirements. This role requires the midwife to manage midwifery kits, medicines, and supplies effectively and support rapid health assessments in emergencies.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must be a registered midwife with a valid PRC License and have at least 2 years of experience in maternal and newborn care, preferably in a rural health unit (RHU), lying-in clinic, hospital, or community setting. Candidates should have experience in antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), safe delivery, newborn care, and routine immunization for children. Familiarity with family planning counseling and services, as well as the Family Health Services and Information System (FHSIS), is essential. The ability to identify high-risk pregnancies and facilitate timely referrals is crucial, along with experience working with Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), and local government units (LGUs). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to humanitarian principles, and basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel) are also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a degree in midwifery and hold a valid license from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in the Philippines. Additional training in maternal and newborn health, emergency obstetric care, and related fields will be considered an advantage.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in maternal and newborn care, with a preference for candidates who have worked in mobile health clinics or humanitarian response programs. Experience in emergency settings and with vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Filipino and English is mandatory, along with proficiency in any local dialects spoken in the BARMM region. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the communities served will be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: This position is a roster-based engagement for a duration of 7 months, with approximately 17 mobile health missions planned. Engagement will be non-continuous, with deployment scheduled based on operational needs and mutual availability.
