Job Overview: The position of Individual Contractor for Communications and Outreach is crucial for supporting the communications and outreach efforts related to Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) and the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). The contractor will be responsible for facilitating effective communication strategies that promote VNR sessions and workshops at subregional SDG forums. This role involves developing promotional materials, documenting lessons learned from events, and ensuring that communication efforts align with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. The contractor will also engage with various stakeholders, including partner communications teams and social media coordinators, to enhance visibility and outreach for VNR and APFSD events. The contractor will play a key role in updating web content, preparing branding materials, and supporting the overall communications strategy for the APFSD.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor include:
Supporting the communications and outreach for VNR sessions at five subregional SDG forums and workshops, including the development and dissemination of promotional materials.
Liaising with partner communications and the ESCAP social media coordinator to create content and visuals for reports and events.
Regularly updating VNR and APFSD webpages and SharePoint pages to ensure accurate and timely information is available.
Preparing branding and visual elements for the APFSD in coordination with relevant teams.
Assisting in the preparation of social media posts, presentations, and outreach materials before, during, and after the APFSD.
Supporting the development of the APFSD communications strategy and coordinating plans with colleagues.
Collaborating with CKMS to develop promotional videos and impact stories showcasing ESCAP’s efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Assisting with organizational and preparatory processes for events, including registration and logistics.
Supporting youth engagement initiatives related to the APFSD and VNR activities. 1
Editing and designing SDG profiles and communications pieces related to ongoing VNR work.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include a strong background in subjects related to communication, political science, international relations, environmental management, or social sciences. Candidates should possess excellent communication and drafting skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively. Proficiency in English writing is essential, as the contractor will be responsible for creating various communication materials. Experience in supporting international events, communications, and partnerships is highly desirable, along with skills in document design and social media communications.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a relevant educational background, ideally holding a degree in communication, political science, international relations, environmental management, social sciences, or a related field. A strong academic foundation in these areas will support the contractor's ability to understand and engage with the complexities of sustainable development and international cooperation.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a demonstrated level of experience in communications and outreach, particularly in the context of international organizations or events. Experience in supporting UN communications and outreach activities is highly valued, as is familiarity with the processes involved in organizing and promoting events related to sustainable development. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communication and documentation will be conducted in English.
