Job Overview: As a Country Representative, you will serve as Plan’s legal representative in Honduras, driving gender transformative programs and influencing work at the country level. This role reflects Plan International’s dual mandate, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable children, particularly girls. You will be accountable for the delivery of the country strategy and will lead a high-performing country team, ensuring accountability for meeting targets and maintaining alignment with the Global Strategy. Your responsibilities will include representing the organization to national and international donors, engaging with local authorities, and advocating for positive change for girls at a national level. You will also support localization efforts by strengthening local actors and community engagement in all programs, ensuring that the organization is prepared to respond to both emergency and development needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: As the Country Representative, you will lead Plan International’s programmatic and influencing work in Honduras, ensuring that humanitarian actions are focused on gender transformation and relevant to the needs of vulnerable children, particularly girls. You will support the development of a country strategy based on thorough assessments of gender power relations and child rights issues, ensuring stakeholder participation. Your role will involve influencing government and civil society stakeholders at a national level, ensuring alignment between the country strategy and resource availability, and leading emergency preparedness and response efforts. You will manage security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security strategies, represent Plan International to key stakeholders, and ensure compliance with organizational policies. Additionally, you will oversee the development of program work plans, manage project lifecycles, and ensure timely delivery of grant and sponsorship work, all while advocating for children’s rights and gender equality.
Required Qualifications: The position requires proven leadership experience in development and humanitarian programming, a strong understanding of child rights and gender in development concepts, and knowledge of international law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law. Candidates should have experience in sustainablecommunity development, resource mobilization, and managing effective teams, including remote management. Strong networking and negotiation skills with governmental and non-governmental actors are essential, along with excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English. Knowledge of donor compliance and financial management is also required, as well as the ability to work in complex and changing environments.
Educational Background: A relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field is essential for this position. Candidates should also have demonstrable knowledge of the geopolitical factors affecting child poverty in Honduras and the opportunities for change within the political, social, and environmental contexts.
Experience: Candidates should possess significant experience in development and humanitarian programming, with a proven track record of leadership in similar roles. Experience in managing teams and programs in challenging environments is crucial, as well as familiarity with the historical and security contexts of the region.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, along with good written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and involves significant travel within Honduras and occasional trips outside the country. The role requires high contact with children, and references will be taken, along with background checks in accordance with Plan International's Child Protection Policy.
