The role involves supporting program implementation, analyzing reports, conducting desk reviews, and assisting in the development of policy briefs and communication materials. Interns will also engage in fundraising efforts and collaborate with various units to monitor data related to GBV. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development and to contribute to meaningful change in the lives of women and girls.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Program Support: Analyzing and implementing partners' quarterly reports, documenting lessons learned, conducting desk reviews on emerging GBV issues, writing briefing notes and talking points, assisting in proposal writing, and collaborating with monitoring and evaluation units.
Secretariat Support: Providing secretarial support to technical working groups, organizing meetings and workshops, and maintaining communication with stakeholders.
Administrative Support: Offering logistical support for events promoting UNFPA's work on GBV, such as International Women’s Day and 16 Days of Activism against GBV.
Expected Outputs: Documenting good practices and human-interest stories, tracking developments in GBV issues, and participating in relevant activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific educational and eligibility requirements to qualify for the internship. They should be enrolled in a first university degree program or a postgraduate degree program, or have recently graduated. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate interest in development, proficiency in at least one UN working language (English or French), and the ability to adapt to diverse environments. Strong analytical and writing skills, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy are also essential. Knowledge of additional UN languages is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes at least a bachelor's degree, preferably in social sciences, community development, or development studies. Candidates should have completed one full academic year in their degree program or be enrolled in a postgraduate program. Recent graduates may also apply, provided they start the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience: Candidates should have some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer work. Experience in gender programs or related fields is highly desirable. Interns should possess strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Languages: Fluency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
