Job Overview: The IMEO Case Lead for Asia and the Pacific will play a crucial role in integrating the IMEO Government Relations team and supporting the ongoing work of the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in the region. This position involves managing stakeholder engagement and notification processes related to methane emissions events across multiple countries, including India, Pakistan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mongolia. The Case Lead will be responsible for developing and maintaining contact lists of stakeholders, collaborating with partners to notify them of detected emissions events, and facilitating feedback to ensure effective communication with the IMEO team. Additionally, the Case Lead will support the design and implementation of scientific studies aimed at understanding methane emissions and will engage in capacity-building efforts through training programs. This role is pivotal in advancing IMEO's mission to provide reliable methane data and drive significant reductions in methane emissions, thereby contributing to global climate goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IMEO Case Lead for Asia and the Pacific include:
Developing and maintaining comprehensive contact lists of stakeholders in the region, including government bodies, national oil companies, and other relevant organizations.
Collaborating with partners to notify them of detected methane emissions events and ensuring follow-up actions are taken.
Supporting the organization of introductory meetings for the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) with regional contacts.
Identifying opportunities for case studies that showcase successful mitigation stories related to methane emissions.
Compiling feedback from stakeholders and conducting needs assessments for MARS responses.
Presenting potential regions and countries for measurement studies to the IMEO science team.
Assisting in the translation of scientific findings for use by regional government stakeholders.
Engaging stakeholders to promote collaboration with IMEO on scientific studies.
Supporting the collection of location data and acquisition of necessary permits for scientific studies. 1
Organizing training sessions for government stakeholders and preparing for events in the region. 1
Continuing engagement with national oil companies to advance membership in the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.

Compiling summaries of regional needs and supporting outreach efforts in the coal, agriculture, and waste sectors.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in energy/environment, policy, or a related field. Candidates must have at least seven years of experience working in government, multilateralism, or related industries in one of the specified countries: Japan, South Korea, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as energy, environment, or policy. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of methane emissions and the policies surrounding environmental management.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of seven years of professional experience in relevant fields, particularly in government or multilateral organizations. Experience in stakeholder engagement, project management, and scientific research related to environmental issues is highly desirable. Familiarity with the specific countries in the Asia-Pacific region is also important for effective communication and collaboration.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNEP's IMEO. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region is considered an asset, with near-native proficiency in these languages being desirable to facilitate communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is remote and is expected to last for a duration of 12 months. The consultant will report directly to the Head of IMEO.
