Job Overview: The Driver and Operational Clerk position is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the Djibouti Country Office. The incumbent will provide reliable and secure driving services to UNFPA staff and official visitors, which includes transporting personnel safely and efficiently, as well as delivering and collecting official documents and mail. In addition to driving responsibilities, the role encompasses supporting the Operations Unit through logistical, administrative, and basic financial support services. This multifaceted position requires adherence to UNFPA rules and procedures, ensuring operational effectiveness and compliance with local regulations. The role is integral to maintaining a well-functioning office environment, contributing to the overall mission of UNFPA in promoting reproductive health and rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver and Operational Clerk will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing safe transportation for authorized personnel and visitors; delivering and collecting official documents and mail; meeting visitors at the airport and facilitating required formalities; ensuring compliance with UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security-policies" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security policies and local traffic regulations; maintaining the cleanliness and routine maintenance of vehicles; conducting daily mechanical checks; keeping accurate vehicle logbooks and fuel records; ensuring that vehicle documentation is valid and up to date; coordinating service and repairs as required; supporting the logistical organization of meetings, workshops, and missions; assisting with the logistical operation, including the clearance and follow-up of medical products; performing administrative errands with banks, suppliers, and authorities; assisting in inventory management and asset verification; supporting the filing and archiving of documents; collecting supporting financial documentation such as invoices; and assisting Country Office staff with general financial duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed secondary diploma as a minimum educational requirement. Additionally, a valid driver’s license is essential. The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in responsible driving, with previous experience working with UN agencies considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads and conditions, and defensive driving skills. Knowledge of basic administration or logistics is also necessary, along with proficiency in computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a completed secondary diploma. This foundational education is essential for understanding the operational and administrative tasks associated with the role, as well as for ensuring compliance with UNFPA's standards and procedures.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in responsible driving. This experience should include familiarity with the operational protocols of international organizations, particularly UN agencies, which will enhance the candidate's ability to navigate the specific requirements and expectations of the role effectively.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Djibouti. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
