Job Overview:
The EBRD is seeking a dedicated and skilled Analyst to join its Almaty Regional Office, focusing on energy projects across Central Asia. The Analyst will report to the Deputy Head of Kazakhstan, Energy, and will be an integral part of the Energy Eurasia team. This role involves working on a variety of projects in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, primarily related to renewable energy generation, gas, and electricity storage, transmission, and distribution. The Analyst will be responsible for contributing to all phases of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, negotiations, execution, and monitoring. This position requires a proactive approach to project management and the ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve project goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst will undertake a range of responsibilities under the guidance of the operation leader or a more senior banker. Key duties include:
  • Structuring and Execution: Collaborating with the project team on transactions, conducting comprehensive research and analysis, evaluating potential risks, preparing financial models, and assisting with technical cooperation assistance. The Analyst will also prepare internal project documentation and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
  • Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation, and Reporting: Monitoring project implementation and financial performance, assessing risks, and preparing monitoring reports with recommendations for corrective actions. The Analyst will also assist with the implementation and monitoring of technical cooperation assignments and perform other tasks as assigned by the operation leader. The role is designed to allow the Analyst to progressively take on more complex tasks and develop transaction expertise.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and develop financial models. Candidates should have credit analysis skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, and proficiency in the local language is an advantage.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree or equivalent experience. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are also desirable, indicating a strong foundation in finance and investment principles.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in the financial industry, ideally from an investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm. Experience in project finance and corporate finance is essential, along with a solid understanding of the energy sector, particularly in renewables and electricity infrastructure. Familiarity with the energy market in Kazakhstan and Central Asia is preferred, as is experience engaging with state agencies and state-owned enterprises in the energy sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills required. Proficiency in the local language is considered an advantage, enhancing the Analyst's ability to engage with local stakeholders and clients effectively.
