Job Overview: The WPS Programme Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day coordination and management of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) programme. This position involves working under the direct supervision of the Policy Advisor for WPS & Governance, contributing to the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of project activities. The consultant will guide and support implementing partners, ensuring coherent coordination with key stakeholders at national, regional, and global levels. The role includes contributing to advocacy and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that interventions are timely, impactful, and strategically aligned with the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) and UN Women’s strategic objectives. The consultant will also be responsible for evidence generation, monitoring, documentation of results, and the development of communication and visibility products, contributing to the Global Learning Hub.
Duties and Responsibilities: The WPS Programme Consultant will undertake a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including: supporting the day-to-day implementation of the WPHF programme work plan and budget; contributing to the refinement and review of programme strategies and project briefs; coordinating consultations with stakeholders and women’s groups; overseeing the onboarding of implementing partners; reviewing financial and narrative reports for compliance; supporting monitoring and evaluation of projects; conducting field visits to assess partner performance; preparing programmatic briefs and updates; facilitating capacity-building initiatives for civil society organizations (CSOs) and women’s rights organizations; providing administrative and procurement support for events; managing projects in Quantum; supporting financial tracking and donor reporting; participating in coordination meetings; contributing to advocacy and visibility efforts; and developing communication materials to enhance the visibility of WPHF initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in fields such as economics, social sciences, gender studies, human rights, development studies, peace and conflict studies, or a related area. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/programme management certification is considered an advantage. Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in development programme/project analysis, implementation, coordination, and reporting, with a focus on gender and/or WPS. Experience in documenting best practices and knowledge products for advocacy and policy is essential, along with familiarity with the UN system and inter-agency coordination.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as economics, social sciences, gender studies, human rights, development studies, peace and conflict studies, or a related area. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of relevant work experience in development programme/project analysis, implementation, coordination, and reporting. Candidates should have experience in gender and/or WPS, as well as experience in analyzing and documenting best practices and knowledge products to inform advocacy, policy, and programming. Experience in the specific country or region where the position is based is required, and familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is office-based, and the deliverables include monthly programme coordination summaries, updated programme strategy documents, reviewed financial and narrative reports, knowledge products, advocacy materials, and monitoring reports. The role involves significant interaction with various stakeholders, including women peace advocates and civil society organizations. The consultant will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with UN Women’s policies and procedures, including rigorous reference and background checks.
