Job Overview:
The Senior Social Risk Specialist position at the EIB is a pivotal role within the Projects Directorate, specifically in the Sustainability, Impact and Advisory Department. The primary function of this role is to translate the Bank's social development policies into actionable practices. This involves advising on the evolution of social due diligence frameworks and management systems to ensure they remain robust and future-ready. The specialist will be responsible for building strong networks across the organization, enhancing internal capacities, and delivering a high-quality approach to social due diligence. The role also includes contributing to the development of knowledge, tools, and operational pilots that enhance the Bank's ability to identify, manage, and mitigate social risks. This position is integral to shaping the Bank's sustainability agenda and ensuring that social considerations are embedded in its operations, ultimately supporting meaningful impact across various regions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Social Risk Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Strengthening the institutional environment for social risk management in projects by developing a network of social risk specialists within the Projects Directorate.
  • Managing the community of practice on social risk management and contributing to the establishment of the Sustainability & Climate Office helpdesk on ECS procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance to the ECS Committee Chair on relevant issues and coordinating needs assessments for capacity building across the Projects Directorate.
  • Leading initiatives to improve a risk-responsive, user-centered approach to social risk due diligence, employing innovations and best practices in user-centered design and digitalization.
  • Contributing to the development of internal systems for data analysis and reporting on social risk issues.
  • Leading the EIB's efforts to prevent and mitigate gender risks in projects, including gender-based violence and harassment, and overseeing the implementation of the EIBG's Gender Action Plan.
  • Developing methods for reporting on gender risks across the EIB's portfolio and providing training and guidance for colleagues on these matters.
  • Organizing knowledge-sharing events and maintaining effective links with external knowledge groups on social risk due diligence.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor) in a relevant field such as sociology, anthropology, social development practice, environmental studies, or economics. A minimum of 5 years of experience focused on social due diligence and the implementation of social standards within an international development or financial institution is required. Experience in developing and implementing policies for managing gender risks in projects, particularly in high-risk contexts, is essential. Candidates should have a sound knowledge of social due diligence frameworks and practical experience in their application. Familiarity with user-centered design, digitalization, and AI tools is considered a significant advantage. Strong analytical abilities and a practical, solutions-oriented mindset are also necessary.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant discipline. Preferred fields of study include sociology, anthropology, social development practice, environmental studies, development studies, or economics. The degree should be equivalent to a Bachelor's level or higher, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the principles and practices relevant to social risk management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in social due diligence and the implementation of social standards. Candidates with senior-level experience in international development or financial institutions will have an advantage. Experience in developing strategic mechanisms to build capacity and support best practices in large institutions is also essential. Familiarity with high-risk contexts and the ability to navigate complex social issues are critical for success in this role.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required, as both are official working languages of the EIB. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered an advantage. Candidates should be comfortable communicating in both languages to ensure effective collaboration and engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders.
