Job Overview:
The Director position within the Department of Technical Cooperation (TC) is a senior management role that involves overseeing the TC programme in assigned regions, specifically Africa, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The Director will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director General and will be responsible for ensuring that the TC programme aligns with the developmental priorities of Member States. This role requires strategic planning, implementation, and monitoring of the TC programme, ensuring that it meets the needs of Member States while adhering to the IAEA's guiding principles and policies. The Director will also be expected to foster partnerships, engage with stakeholders, and lead a team of professionals to achieve the agency's objectives in technical cooperation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director will have a wide range of responsibilities, including providing strategic guidance for TC programme development, setting performance standards, and monitoring results. The role involves leading and inspiring staff, promoting a culture of performance management, and ensuring that the Division's objectives align with the IAEA's mission. The Director will guide the engagement of Member States, formulate strategic plans, and ensure that TC strategies are translated into effective programmes and projects. Additionally, the Director will oversee the programming cycle, ensure adherence to organizational policies, and leverage financial resources from various stakeholders. Building strategic partnerships and fostering knowledge sharing within the Division and among Member States are also key responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in management, social sciences, science and technology, international relations, engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. Additional background in development studies is considered an asset. Candidates should have at least 15 years of progressively responsible experience, with a minimum of five years at a senior management or executive level in international cooperation, particularly in programme development and capacity building. Familiarity with recent trends and best practices in technical cooperation is essential, as is experience in developing countries and an understanding of the socio-economic and political environments in the assigned regions.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as management, social sciences, science and technology, international relations, or engineering. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by sufficient relevant work experience. Additional qualifications in development studies are advantageous, enhancing the candidate's ability to understand and address the complexities of international cooperation in technical fields.

Experience:
The position requires extensive experience, specifically at least 15 years in progressively responsible roles, with a significant portion of that time spent in senior management or executive positions. Candidates should have a strong background in international cooperation, particularly in programme development and capacity building, with a focus on nuclear technology and its applications. Experience in regional cooperation and familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the nuclear field are highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and Member States.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $117,953, along with a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation expenses. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, and benefits such as a pension plan and health insurance.
