Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Field Security Assistant position is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of UNHCR operations in the area of competence. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of higher-grade field security staff and will be responsible for monitoring local security developments, producing timely updates, and supporting the implementation of Residential Security Measures (RSM). The role requires a background in security, military, police, or humanitarian security environments, and knowledge of Security Risk Management (SRM) processes, radio communication procedures, and emergency response protocols. The Field Security Assistant will also assist in administrative tasks, prepare reports, and liaise with local security authorities and community leaders to ensure the protection of vulnerable groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Field Security Assistant include: assisting in regular needs assessments in accordance with UNHCR programming cycles; monitoring the security situation in the area of competence; collecting relevant data and information; overseeing the security guard force and providing feedback to UNHCR supervisors; reviewing security equipment for operational readiness; supporting the advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security advisor in monitoring the security environment; acting as an interpreter when required; contributing to the preparation of security incident reports; assisting in administrative tasks such as report preparation; monitoring community policing activities; liaising with host country security apparatus; taking minutes during security meetings; submitting recommendations for improvements; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential functional skills include cross-cultural communication and expertise in police, military, or NGO corporate security. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to creating a safe and empowering work environment, free from harassment and discrimination. Knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station is mandatory, with local language proficiency being desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field. No specific certificates or licenses are required for this position, but a background in security-related fields is desirable.

Experience:
The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience in a security-related role. Experience in a humanitarian context or with UN agencies is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken formats.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, along with proficiency in the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language is required, and knowledge of the local language is considered an asset.
