Job Overview:
In this role as an Electronics Technician, you will play a crucial part in supporting the operation and reliability of CERN's electronics pool equipment. Your primary responsibilities will include testing, qualifying, and maintaining a wide range of electronic instruments that are essential for high-energy physics experiments and laboratories. You will be tasked with maintaining and improving test benches and procedures, troubleshooting equipment issues, and contributing to the evaluation of new devices. Your work will ensure the availability and performance of essential electronics systems for experimental teams, making a significant impact on the success of their research endeavors. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electronics Technician include:
  • Testing electronics equipment and instrumentation to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Identifying faults in electronic systems and carrying out necessary firmware and hardware fixes.
  • Creating and correcting test procedure documentation as required to maintain accurate records of testing processes.
  • Maintaining the hardware and software of existing test benches in collaboration with responsible technicians to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participating in the daily operations of the electronics pool service, providing support to service users as needed.
  • Contributing to the evaluation of new electronic devices and systems to enhance the capabilities of the electronics pool.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • A national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • A maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics or a related field by the application deadline.
  • The highest educational qualification must be a general secondary education diploma.
  • Candidates must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a general secondary education diploma. Candidates should have a foundational understanding of electronics and related fields, which can be demonstrated through their educational achievements and any relevant coursework or training.

Experience:
Candidates should possess a basic level of experience in testing, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, particularly in modular electronics and instrumentation. Experience in user support or customer-oriented services is considered an asset, as it demonstrates the ability to work effectively with service users and address their needs.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN.

The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with a possible extension of up to 36 months maximum. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite at CERN in Geneva. The target start date for this role is June 1, 202

The position offers a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year plus an additional two weeks of annual closure.
