Job Overview: The GBV Programme Analyst plays a crucial role in the effective management of UN Women programs in South Africa, specifically focusing on the elimination of violence against women (EVAW). Reporting to the GBV Programme Specialist, the analyst is responsible for providing substantive inputs to the design, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of programs. This position requires close collaboration with the country office’s program and operations team, UN Women personnel at regional and headquarters levels, government officials, multi and bi-lateral donors, and civil society to ensure successful program implementation. The analyst will contribute technically to the development of program strategies, provide support in the implementation of program activities, and monitor results achieved during implementation. The role also involves building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies, as well as contributing to advocacy and knowledge-building efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute technically to the development of program strategies for EVAW by providing inputs to the design and formulation of program/project proposals and initiatives, and identifying areas for support and intervention related to the EVAW program.
Provide substantive technical support to the implementation and management of the GBV program, including contributing technical inputs to the biennial workplan and budget, supporting the implementation of program activities with government and civil society, coordinating partner selection processes, reviewing and monitoring partner financial and narrative reports, and ensuring timely delivery of planned outputs.
Provide technical assistance and capacity development to project/program partners by maintaining relationships with national partners, identifying opportunities for capacity building, and facilitating technical support and training as needed.
Monitor and report on the program/project by tracking progress of implementation activities and finances, drafting reports on monitoring missions, and preparing progress reports for the Program Specialist’s review.
Build partnerships and resource mobilization strategies by providing substantive inputs to resource mobilization strategies, preparing relevant documentation, and contributing to the development of funding proposals.
Contribute to advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts by collaborating with the Communications team on advocacy campaigns and knowledge products.
Perform other duties as assigned within the functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Rights, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or any related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A project/program management certification would be an added advantage. Candidates must have at least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of EVAW, project formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building. Strong resource mobilization skills with a proven track record of successful resource mobilization are essential, along with experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies, national stakeholders, civil society, donors, and diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and experience with web-based management systems are required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Rights, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or related disciplines. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with additional qualifying experience. A project/program management certification is considered an advantage.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of EVAW, including project formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, and capacity building is required. Experience in developing EVAW programs is essential, along with a strong background in resource mobilization and coordination with various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
