Job Overview: The Graduate Engineer position in the Accelerator Beam Transfer Group (ABT) at CERN offers a unique opportunity to work with complex systems where safety and precision are paramount. The role involves implementing and commissioning particle beam transfer processes, utilizing a sophisticated blend of industrial automation and bespoke in-house equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Graduate Engineer include building process capability and control, implementing future-proof processes ready for AI-powered automation, identifying and eliminating process waste (such as energy and beam time), driving improvements in operator experience, and developing the capability for technical troubleshooting. You will also be expected to engage in dialogue with process experts and document any changes made during the process. Additionally, you will be involved in the translation of functional requirements into automation design, development of Siemens PLC and SCADA systems, implementation of industrial communication protocols, and the creation of Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI). Hands-on commissioning of PLC systems, sensors, and industrial equipment will also be a key part of your role.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and possess a professional background in Electrical, Industrial, or Process Engineering (or a related field). The required qualifications include either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is also essential that candidates have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Industrial, Process Engineering, or a related field.
