The internship is designed to provide students or recent graduates with practical experience in the field of communications, particularly in relation to sustainable development, trade, investment, finance, and the digital economy. Interns will work full-time, five days a week, for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extending to six months. The role involves assisting in the creation of engaging content that enhances the visibility of UNCTAD's initiatives, performing edits and drafting content for various formats, and supporting multimedia content development. Interns will receive training and mentoring throughout their internship, ensuring they gain valuable insights and skills relevant to their future careers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the creation of compelling content related to sustainable development and trade; performing initial edits and drafting content for both digital and print formats; supporting the development of multimedia content; and identifying and implementing the latest editorial practices, including the use of Artificial Intelligence tools to improve workflow efficiency. Interns are expected to adhere to all applicable UN rules and regulations, provide copies of all materials they prepare during the internship, respect the confidentiality of information, and maintain the impartiality and independence required of the UN. They must also refrain from any conduct that could adversely reflect on the UN and engage in activities compatible with the organization's aims and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be eligible for this internship. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications, including Adobe InDesign and Datawrapper. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Interns should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance for differing opinions and views. No prior work experience is required, but a relevant field of study is necessary.

The degree should be in a field closely related to the internship, such as economics, environmental economics, development, political science, or other relevant social sciences. Applicants must provide proof of their educational status at the time of application, including an official certificate if requested later.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have a strong academic background in a relevant field. The internship is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the UN environment and enhance their educational experience through hands-on work in communications and external relations.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French and Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application. Proficiency in multiple languages can be beneficial in a multicultural organization like the UN, where communication with diverse stakeholders is essential.
