Job Overview: The Associate Investment Officer position within IFC’s Infrastructure Department for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is designed to support the origination, structuring, execution, and supervision of infrastructure investments across key sectors such as energy, transport, water and waste, municipal infrastructure, and telecommunications. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in identifying business opportunities and contributing to the structuring and execution of investment transactions, which may include project finance, corporate finance, equity, mezzanine, and hybrid instruments. This role will primarily focus on infrastructure projects in Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, requiring strong financial modeling capabilities and the ability to analyze complex financial information. Proficiency in Excel is essential, and fluency in both English and Spanish is required, with Portuguese considered an advantage. The split grade level (GF1 or GF2) will be determined based on the candidate’s transaction experience, structuring expertise, and demonstrated ability to independently manage transaction workstreams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The specific responsibilities of the Associate Investment Officer include, but are not limited to: contributing to the origination, evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of infrastructure investment transactions across debt, equity, and hybrid instruments while working as part of multidisciplinary transaction teams; conducting financial, operational, market, and integrity due diligence; building complex financial models from scratch, including scenario and sensitivity analysis; providing quality control over analytical work prepared by analysts; preparing high-quality internal documentation such as Concept Notes, investment review materials, credit assessments, and other committee documentation; drafting and presenting early-stage investment opportunity memos for management discussion; supporting or independently managing straightforward transactions through approval and closing; actively managing and/or supporting supervision of portfolio investments; undertaking sector mapping and market research to identify pipeline opportunities; contributing to country and sector strategy inputs, pitchbooks, and marketing materials; coordinating closely with Environmental & Social, Legal, Risk, Treasury, and technical specialists; and supporting relationship management with clients, sponsors, commercial banks, development finance institutions, multilateral partners, and relevant public sector stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Associate Investment Officer position include a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field relevant to infrastructure investment or sector specialization. Candidates should have 4–8 years of relevant professional experience in project finance, infrastructure finance, private equity, investment banking, commercial banking, or a related field involving financial structuring and transaction execution. Demonstrated expertise in financial statement analysis and advanced financial modeling is essential, including the ability to build models from scratch and perform scenario and sensitivity analysis. Candidates must also have a proven ability to analyze complex financial and operational information, form sound investment judgments, and clearly articulate conclusions. Strong written and presentation skills are necessary, as well as experience working on infrastructure transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in Peru, Ecuador, and/or Bolivia.
