Job Overview: The Driver position within the Country Office Support Units is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the organization’s logistics and transportation needs. The role involves driving office vehicles to transport authorized personnel, handling the delivery and collection of mail and documents, and facilitating airport customs and immigration formalities. The driver is expected to maintain the vehicle in good condition, ensuring all necessary documents and supplies are available. This position requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and a commitment to safety and compliance with driving regulations. The driver will also log official trips and vehicle usage data, contributing to the efficient management of the organization's transportation resources. This role is essential for supporting the operations of WHO in the field, ensuring that staff can travel safely and efficiently to carry out their duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive office vehicles to convey authorized personnel and handle the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
Meet authorized personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required.
Ensure the availability of all required documents and supplies in the assigned vehicle, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, oil changes, tire checks, and car washing.
Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, and greasing, and fill in the Monthly vehicle data form at the end of each month.
Follow the necessary steps in case of involvement in an accident, ensuring compliance with organizational rules and regulations.
Perform other related duties as required or instructed, including providing support to other areas of work as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Education: Essential - At least Junior Secondary School education and a valid driver's license of the country. Desirable - Basic mechanics certificate and first aid training would be an advantage. Experience: Essential - At least two years of driving experience as a driver with a safe driving record. Desirable - Experience working with the United Nations or similar organizations would be an advantage. Skills: Knowledge of driving rules and regulations of the country, skills in minor vehicle repair, ability to read, write, and understand instructions in the working language, and the ability to write concise and accurate reports of accidents.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is Junior Secondary School education. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license issued in the country of employment. Additional qualifications such as a basic mechanics certificate and first aid training are considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of two years of driving experience, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience working in a similar role, particularly within the United Nations or other international organizations, is desirable and may provide an advantage in the selection process.
Languages: Essential: Intermediate knowledge of Portuguese is required for effective communication in the workplace. Desirable: Basic knowledge of English and French is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of colleagues and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning it will be filled by individuals residing in the local commuting area of Luanda. The role offers an attractive remuneration package, including an annual net base salary starting at USD 22,653, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to 30 days of annual leave.
