Job Overview:
The National UN Volunteer in Child Protection will work under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer within the Child Protection Section. This role involves a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing child protection case management and addressing gender-based violence (GBV) within the context of UNICEF's operations. The volunteer will be responsible for establishing clear standards and monitoring mechanisms for child protection services, ensuring that minimum standards are defined and that the workforce is equipped to deliver quality services. The position also requires the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the quality and outcomes of case management. Additionally, the volunteer will engage in mainstreaming GBV risk mitigation strategies across various sectors, ensuring safe access to services for women and girls, and collaborating with other UN agencies and sectors to coordinate GBV prevention and response efforts. The expected results include improved capacity of UNICEF staff and partners, consistent application of case management standards, and enhanced coordination for timely access to services for children and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish clear standards and regular monitoring mechanisms for child protection case management.
  • Define minimum standards and equip the workforce with necessary tools and training.
  • Systematically capture and analyze data on service quality to inform improvements.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track case management quality and performance.
  • Enhance the capacity of child protection personnel through structured training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Establish effective coordination and referral mechanisms for improved collaboration across sectors.
  • Mainstream GBV risk mitigation in UNICEF-led clusters and ensure safe access to services for women and girls.
  • Engage with UNICEF’s Child Protection team and other sectors to coordinate GBV risk mitigation efforts.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of GBV interventions and report on progress and challenges. 1
  • Ensure alignment with UNICEF’s operational guides and global standards for GBV prevention and response.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A commitment to child rights and gender equality is essential, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving. The candidate should also have experience in child protection or related fields, with a focus on case management and GBV prevention. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes, as well as data analysis, is highly desirable. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively are also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in child protection, gender studies, or humanitarian response would be an asset. Knowledge of international child protection standards and frameworks is also beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in child protection, social work, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian contexts, particularly in areas affected by conflict or crisis, is highly valued. Familiarity with UNICEF's programs and policies, as well as experience in capacity building and training, will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Myanmar would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This position is a National UN Volunteer role, which typically involves a contract duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to working in challenging environments. The position may involve travel within Myanmar to support field operations and coordination efforts. Compensation and benefits will be in accordance with UNV policies, including a monthly living allowance and health insurance.
