Job Overview: The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of NRC's operations in North Kivu, including team management, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, reputation, and operational quality. This role involves ensuring that programs are implemented on time, meet high-quality standards, and align with the expectations of donors and the organization. The Area Manager will supervise senior staff in the implementation area and participate in the NRC leadership team in the DRC. They will ensure compliance with NRC policies and procedures, manage grants in the area, and monitor project implementation and expenditure levels. The position requires a strategic approach to program implementation, focusing on cost-effectiveness and targeting beneficiaries in need of protection.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage all NRC operations in North Kivu, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures.
Oversee the management of senior staff in the implementation area, providing guidance and support.
Participate in the NRC leadership team in the DRC, contributing to strategic decision-making.
Ensure timely and high-quality implementation of programs, maintaining a focus on cost-effectiveness.
Monitor project implementation and expenditure levels, providing monthly reports to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director.
Ensure compliance with donor regulations and NRC guidelines in grant management.
Address security concerns and maintain the safety of staff and operations in a complex and unstable context.
Engage with local stakeholders and communities to ensure program relevance and effectiveness.
Lead efforts to relaunch the food security and livelihoods sector to address identified needs of displaced populations.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a zone manager or senior project manager role in a humanitarian or recovery context.
At least 8 years of experience in humanitarian work, preferably within non-governmental organizations.
Proven experience working in complex and unstable environments.
Knowledge of the context in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with specific knowledge of North Kivu being an advantage.
Expertise in one or more key NRC competencies (Shelter, EHA, Education, ICLA, Protection and Humanitarian Mediation, Emergency response, etc.).
Demonstrated results in previous positions related to the responsibilities of the role.
Strong leadership skills and self-awareness of personal competencies.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a managerial role within humanitarian contexts, with a strong background in project management and team leadership. Experience in complex and unstable environments is essential, as is familiarity with the specific challenges faced in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Languages: Fluency in both French and English, both written and verbal, is mandatory. Proficiency in Swahili is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a 12-month fixed-term contract at NRC Congo, classified as Grade 10 international. The role is based in Goma, DR Congo.
