Job Overview: The Associate Education Officer (Roving) will play a crucial role in coordinating UNHCR's education response in Chad, particularly in the eastern provinces. This position involves working closely with the Ministry of National Education and Civic Promotion (MENPC), UNICEF, and other partners to implement the national Refugee Education Strategy 203
The officer will be responsible for ensuring that newly arrived refugees have access to the Chadian education system, which is vital for their protection and resilience. The role includes conducting field visits to assess educational needs, monitoring education activities, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures. The Associate Education Officer will also be involved in organizing examinations, strengthening the capacities of implementing partners, and promoting awareness of the importance of education among refugee communities. This position requires a proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by refugee children in accessing quality education and ensuring their successful integration into the educational framework of Chad.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Education Officer include:
Coordinating the UNHCR education response in collaboration with MENPC, UNICEF, and other operational partners.
Conducting regular field visits to assess educational needs and monitor activities related to education, including infrastructure development and teacher management.
Organizing and coordinating the BEF and Bacalaureate exams in various centers.
Ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures across the education program.
Reviewing and validating data reported in the Ajala platform as part of monitoring and evaluation activities.
Strengthening the technical capacities of UNHCR’s implementing partners.
Assisting in disseminating scholarship offers and participating in candidate selection.
Coordinating awareness campaigns on the importance of education.
Providing technical guidance to national education staff based in Farchana. 1
Participating in monthly coordination meetings and producing field mission reports. 1
Contributing to briefing kits and compiling draft reports for donors. 1
Coordinating the production of bi-yearly EMIS in collaboration with the EMIS Focal Point.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Associate Education Officer position include: a. Education: A university degree or equivalent in education, social service, or international development. b. Work Experience: 3 years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree; 2 years with a graduate degree; or 1 year with a doctorate. c. Key Competencies: Demonstrated field experience in education design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and coordination, strong experience in refugee education programs, ability to manage multiple tasks under demanding conditions, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in French and English, with knowledge of Arabic being an asset. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS applications.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a university degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as education or social sciences.
