Job Overview: The Child ProtectionCoordinator position is a critical role within the Danish Refugee Council, focusing on providing technical leadership for emergency Child Protection initiatives in South Sudan. Based in Juba, the coordinator will lead efforts to enhance the quality and consistency of Child Protection case management, mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS), and coordination efforts in line with Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) standards. The role involves regular field missions to support Mobile Response Teams (MRTs) operating in hard-to-reach areas affected by conflict or natural disasters. The coordinator will ensure that interventions are technically sound, responsive to the needs of high-risk children, and aligned with national guidance. This position requires a proactive approach to capacity building, technical oversight, and collaboration with government authorities and other Child Protection actors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership and Quality Assurance (60%): Provide technical oversight and guidance to MRT teams on CPiE interventions, strengthen CP case management systems, support the ethical use of Child Protection Information Management Systems (CPIMS), and ensure adherence to Best Interest Procedures (BIP).
Capacity Building and Systems Strengthening (20%): Oversee the delivery of technical training for Child Protection staff, identify capacity gaps, and promote integration of Child Protection across other protection components.
Coordination and Representation (15%): Represent the project in CP coordination platforms, strengthen coordination with government authorities, and ensure alignment with national strategies.
Programme Support and Reporting (5%): Provide technical input for donor reporting, contribute to proposal development, and ensure CP activities are evidence-based and aligned with monitoring data.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Law, or a related field. They should demonstrate technical expertise in CP case management and supervision systems, experience with CPIMS/PRIMERO, and strong knowledge of CPiE standards and UASC procedures. Familiarity with international legal frameworks related to the Six Grave Violations against children in armed conflict is essential, along with proven experience in capacity building and technical mentoring of frontline teams.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Law, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of child protection in emergency contexts and for effectively leading Child Protection initiatives.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in Child Protection, preferably within humanitarian or emergency contexts. Candidates should have experience working in complex emergency settings, with specific experience in South Sudan considered an asset. Proven experience in capacity building and technical mentoring of frontline teams is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in at least one or more local languages such as Dinka, Nuer, Bari, Murle, Luo, Zande, and Arabic. This linguistic capability is important for effective communication with children, caregivers, and community leaders in the field.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is 6 months, and it is categorized as a non-management role (Band: G1). The work location is Juba, South Sudan, with frequent field missions to support Mobile Response Teams (MRTs). The expected start date is March 9, 2026, contingent upon budget confirmation. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for expatriate contracts.
