Job Overview:
As a Senior Economist at ADB, you will play a crucial role in leading economic work within the Pakistan Resident Mission (PRM) under the Central and West Asia Department (CWRD). Your responsibilities will include facilitating government dialogue, coordinating with various stakeholders, and disseminating knowledge. You will conduct regular economic analysis and monitoring, contributing to the implementation of the new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) under the guidance of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD). This position requires you to support government and ADB divisions in loan and technical assistance processing, non-lending products, knowledge solutions, and regional cooperation. While your primary focus will be on economic work in Pakistan, you will also cover economic work in Afghanistan until further arrangements are made. Your role will involve leading complex economic studies, providing strategic advice on high-impact development areas, and ensuring the quality of economic knowledge products and services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Your duties as a Senior Economist will include leading and ensuring the quality of complex economic studies, offering strategic advice on high-impact development areas. You will be responsible for the identification, preparation, and dissemination of a range of economic knowledge products, including flagship reports, policy briefs, and blogs. You will also lead events and forums for knowledge dissemination, collaborating closely with other departments, government entities, and development partners. Additionally, you will support ADB's sovereign and non-sovereign operations, contributing to loan, grant, and technical assistance design in Pakistan and Afghanistan. You will engage in policy dialogue with governments and stakeholders, coordinate development efforts with partners like the IMF and World Bank, and undertake other tasks as required, demonstrating a high degree of responsiveness and teamwork.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, you will need a Master's Degree or equivalent in economics, with a Ph.D. being an advantage. You should have expertise in fields such as economic development, macroeconomics, public finance, public policy, or international economics. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in economics and related areas is required, including international experience in development, with experience in Central Asia being an advantage. You must demonstrate expertise in economic and policy work in developing countries and have a track record of high-quality knowledge outputs, including publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Experience in dialoguing and coordinating with senior management and government officials is essential, as is familiarity with ADB's operations and policies.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in economics or a related field. A Ph.D. is considered an advantage. Candidates with a university degree and at least 5 years of specialized experience relevant to the position may also be considered. The focus should be on economics, with a strong emphasis on development-related fields.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in economics and related areas. This includes international experience working in development, particularly in Central Asia. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in economic and policy work in developing countries, as well as experience in leading and participating in teams. Familiarity with ADB's operations, policies, and procedures is also advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 years or conversion to a regular appointment based on ADB's needs and the employee's performance. The position is full-time and based in Islamabad, Pakistan, with relocation required.
