Job Overview:
The Protection Coordinator will play a crucial role within DRC’s protection team, focusing on enhancing the capacity of area protection teams and partners through training, coaching, and mentoring. This position is designed to ensure that high-quality protection interventions are implemented in accordance with DRC’s programmatic policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Protection Coordinator will also be responsible for developing and adapting technical tools to support partner-led initiatives. The role requires a strong commitment to building the capacity of local teams and ensuring that protection interventions are inclusive and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations, particularly adolescents and young people.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: conducting capacity building and training for DRC protection teams, coordinating with the Country Protection Manager to monitor protection interventions, delivering tailored support to address identified gaps, and contextualizing existing guidelines for case management. The role also involves engaging with partners to assess their technical capacity, delivering training initiatives, and supporting the integration of GBV risk mitigation within protection programming. Additionally, the Protection Coordinator will participate in strategic discussions within the Youth Livelihoods Consortia Management Unit, contribute to the development of guidance and tools, and lead technical working groups to ensure effective implementation of protection standards across various areas.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field and have 3-5 years of experience in protection programming within a humanitarian context. Knowledge and experience in implementing protection programming related to general protection, GBV, and mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS) are essential. Proven experience in capacity building and training of national staff and local partners is required, along with strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office. Experience working in Sudan or similar contexts is highly desirable, as well as strong facilitation, training, and coaching skills.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, international relations, or humanitarian studies is required for this position. This educational background should provide a strong foundation in the principles of protection and humanitarian response, equipping the candidate with the necessary knowledge to effectively support and lead protection initiatives.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in protection programming, particularly within humanitarian settings. This experience should include direct involvement in protection interventions, capacity building, and working with local partners. Familiarity with the specific challenges and dynamics of working in Sudan or similar environments is highly advantageous, as it will inform the candidate's approach to the role.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Arabic is highly desired, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and beneficiaries, enhancing the effectiveness of protection interventions.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a one-year contract with the possibility of extension, contingent upon funding and performance evaluations. The salary and conditions will align with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for International staff or the terms for National Staff in Sudan. The position is graded at NM.G, and the expected start date is March 202
