Job Overview: The Protection Assistant – GBV Case Worker will play a crucial role in implementing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) case management activities within the DRC's operations in the Mai-Tsebri Field Office. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting survivors of GBV and are committed to providing high-quality, confidential case management services. The role involves working closely with the protection team to deliver essential services to GBV survivors and other beneficiaries affected by the ongoing crisis. The Protection Assistant will be responsible for conducting assessments, providing emotional support, and ensuring that survivors receive the necessary referrals to relevant services. Additionally, the role requires active engagement with the community to identify needs and gaps in GBV programming, ensuring that all interventions are survivor-centered and adhere to established guidelines and protocols. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain accurate records and participate in regular supervision and training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge in GBV response.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing case management services through high-quality and confidential interventions; conducting referrals to relevant services as needed; implementing action plans and ensuring appropriate follow-up and case closure; offering counseling to all survivors referred to case management services; conducting case management in safe spaces identified in collaboration with survivors; filing and storing GBV data in compliance with established protocols; facilitating emotional support group sessions for women and girls at risk or survivors of GBV; delivering basic GBV training to community structures; identifying gaps in GBV response services and reporting them to the GBV Officer and Coordinator; ensuring regular monitoring and evaluation of GBV-related projects; engaging with community representatives to understand needs; incorporating a survivor-centered approach in all activities; maintaining confidentiality for all case-related information; and carrying out additional protection activities as assigned by the protection team leader.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in protection, preferably with an international humanitarian organization. They should demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in complex and challenging environments. Experience in case management and referral activities is desirable, along with field experience in emergency contexts. The ideal candidate will exhibit a high level of personal initiative, analytical skills, and proactive problem-solving abilities. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for developing and maintaining working relationships across the organization, and candidates should be team players who are culturally sensitive and committed to the values of DRC. Good communication skills and a commitment to learning and implementing organizational policies are also required, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A university degree in social work, social science, law, or a related field from a recognized institution is required for this position. Relevant certifications or licenses that enhance the candidate's qualifications in the field of protection or social work will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience in protection, ideally within an international humanitarian context. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in case management and an understanding of referral processes related to GBV. Field experience in emergency situations is highly desirable, as it equips the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate complex challenges and provide effective support to survivors.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with proficiency in Amharic and Tigrinya. These language skills are essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders in the region, ensuring that services are accessible and culturally appropriate.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is until July 31, 2026, and it is classified as a National Contract under Band I2 – Non-Management. The designated duty station is the Mai-Tsebri Field Office, with a start date of March 15, 202
