Job Overview:
The Communication and Digitalization Associate will play a vital role in supporting the UNFPA Country Office in Kyrgyzstan by implementing communication, visibility, and advocacy initiatives that enhance the impact of UNFPA's programs. This position involves working closely with the National Programme Analyst on Communications and Innovation, as well as collaborating with various program teams and partners. The associate will be responsible for drafting communication materials, managing social media platforms, engaging with the public through digital content, and supporting media and event initiatives. The role is essential for ensuring consistent and high-quality outreach across various digital and media platforms, thereby amplifying UNFPA's mission and objectives in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communication and Digitalization Associate include:
  • Communication and Content Support: Drafting communication materials such as social media posts, human-interest stories, press notes, key messages, and briefs related to sexual and reproductive health, youth, gender equality, and population data. Preparing visibility materials for campaigns, events, and donor reporting.
  • Digital and Social Media Engagement: Managing UNFPA Kyrgyzstan’s social media platforms, including content scheduling, moderation, and basic analytics. Creating and publishing content for various digital platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, ensuring alignment with UNFPA's corporate communication guidelines. Coordinating the scheduling of approved content to maintain consistent messaging and visibility for campaigns and key dates. Monitoring user interactions and responding appropriately while adhering to digital safety protocols. Producing digital content such as visuals, short videos, and captions in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English, and preparing monthly digital engagement reports.
  • Media and Event Support: Assisting with media monitoring and compiling media coverage reports. Organizing press briefings, public events, and campaigns, and documenting these events through photos and social media updates.
  • Coordination and Knowledge Management: Maintaining communication archives, photo libraries, and digital assets, and supporting coordination with UN partners under UN Communication Group initiatives. Providing administrative and logistical support as needed.
  • Other Duties: Performing additional communication-related tasks as required by UNFPA management.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to coordinate work among teams, and the capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. Candidates should possess excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse, multicultural environment. A positive attitude towards feedback and a focus on client impact and results are essential. Strong oral and written communication skills are also necessary, along with the ability to adapt to change and manage complexities in a dynamic work environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a relevant educational background, typically a degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, or a related field. A strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues, gender equality, and youth empowerment is highly desirable, as is familiarity with digital communication strategies and tools.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in communications, digital media management, or public relations, preferably within a non-profit or international organization. Experience in drafting communication materials, managing social media platforms, and engaging with diverse audiences is essential. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health, is an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience and support UNFPA's initiatives effectively.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer is responsible for organizing their own accommodation. As of February 2026, the monthly Volunteer Living Allowance is approximately USD 813.0
  • Additional benefits include a one-time pre-assignment entry lump sum of USD 400, relocation costs of USD 200 if the duty station is outside commuting distance, access to UNV's learning and career development resources, annual leave of 2.5 days per month, and comprehensive health and life insurance coverage for the volunteer and eligible dependents. An exit allowance of USD 84.6 for each month served will be paid upon successful completion of the assignment.
