Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) was established to provide support primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces. The organization is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS) and operates within the framework of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council resolution 2793 (2025). UNSOH aims to ensure the safety and security of UN staff and premises in Haiti, contributing to the overall stability and security of the region. Job Overview:
The Field Security Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of UN staff and premises in the field mission. This temporary position is based in Santo Domingo and reports directly to the UNSOH Chief Security Officer or their designate. The primary responsibilities include providing specialized security support, coordinating with local security organizations, and maintaining communication regarding the security situation in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The incumbent is expected to assist in the preparation and implementation of the UN Security Plan, monitor security measures, and report on security incidents affecting UN personnel and assets. Additionally, the Field Security Assistant will conduct training courses on security awareness and provide security orientation to newly assigned staff members, ensuring that all personnel are well-informed about safety protocols and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Security Assistant will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting the Chief Security Adviser in collecting and communicating information about the security situation; liaising with host government security organizations and local authorities; assessing the security situation at the duty station; maintaining regular contact with Security Focal Points of UN agencies; assisting in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan; monitoring the implementation of security measures; reporting security incidents; organizing training courses on security awareness; conducting security evaluations; maintaining liaison with commercial security companies; and providing general administrative assistance, including maintaining confidential correspondence files and databases. The role requires a proactive approach to security management and the ability to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, training in military or police procedures and practices is required. The role demands a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a professional capacity with a local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organization. If the candidate holds a relevant first-level university degree or higher, a minimum of five years of experience is acceptable. Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is also required. Prior experience in a similar role within any United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) organization is desirable, as is completion of the UNDSS Field Security Assistant / Local Security Assistant Course.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with a relevant first-level university degree or higher will be given preference, particularly if they have additional experience in security-related roles. The educational background should ideally include training in military or police procedures, which is essential for understanding the security dynamics in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a professional capacity related to security, police, or fire brigade organizations. Candidates with a relevant first-level university degree or higher may qualify with five years of experience. This experience should include responsibilities that demonstrate the ability to manage security operations effectively and respond to security incidents in a timely manner. Familiarity with the UN's security protocols and previous roles within the UNSMS will be advantageous.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with both languages requiring a minimum UN Level II proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. While French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, it is not explicitly required for this role.
