Job Overview: The Architect Associate position is integral to the Global Infrastructure Section (GIS) of UNHCR’s Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS). This role involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities centered around the planning, implementation, and oversight of infrastructure projects. The Architect Associate will prepare architectural designs and layouts, support space planning and office relocations, and assist in procurement and construction-related processes. The position requires effective collaboration with field offices, headquarters units, and service providers to coordinate building improvements, office reconfigurations, and facility upgrades. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting data collection and management for UNHCR’s real estate portfolio, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data in the Unifier platform. This role also includes training and supporting users of the Unifier platform to facilitate effective data collection, validation, and reporting, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of infrastructure management within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Architect Associate include but are not limited to: preparing architectural designs and layouts for various infrastructure projects; supporting space planning and office moves to optimize workspace utilization; assisting in procurement processes related to construction and facility management; coordinating with field offices and service providers to implement building improvements and facility upgrades; managing data collection and ensuring the integrity of information within UNHCR’s real estate portfolio; supporting the Annual Verification exercise by training users on the Unifier platform; collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure projects align with operational needs and sustainability goals; and contributing to the promotion of inclusive and accessible office environments through effective design and planning.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a background in architecture, with a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in architectural drafting, office layout design, and construction project support. Proficiency in AutoCAD or ArchiCAD is essential, along with a strong command of Microsoft Office tools. Experience with digital platforms for real estate or infrastructure data management is highly desirable. Candidates should also have knowledge of procurement, facility management, and contract administration processes. Familiarity with visual design and modeling tools such as SketchUp, Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, or 3D rendering software is considered an asset, particularly in the context of promoting inclusive and sustainable office environments.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Architect Associate position includes a degree in architecture or a related field. Candidates should have a solid understanding of architectural principles and practices, as well as relevant technical skills that enable them to perform effectively in this role.
