Job Overview:
The Accountant position at FHI 360 involves performing essential accounting functions, including the recording, classification, examination, and analysis of financial transactions. The role requires the review and consolidation of financial reports from the Country Office on a monthly basis, processing and recording journal entries, managing cash receipts, field cash management, and wire payments. The Accountant will also respond to inquiries, assist in training, maintain general ledger accounts along with supporting sub-ledgers, and produce various accounting reports. Additionally, the Accountant will participate in various accounting projects, which may include external or internal audits, system upgrades, and changes to accounting processes or procedures as assigned. This position is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data and compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accountant will perform a variety of routine accounting tasks in accordance with established accounting procedures and organizational policies. Key responsibilities include supporting cash management activities, preparing payment vouchers, conducting advance reconciliations, and documenting cash counts. The Accountant will process vendor payments and ensure that all payment documentation is complete and accurate, in compliance with both organizational and donor requirements. Monthly financial reports for the Country Office will be reviewed for accuracy during month-end closings, which will involve cash and travel reconciliations and cost allowances. The Accountant will manage account reconciliations, examine financial statements for accuracy and completeness, and maintain subsidiary ledgers. Additional responsibilities include assisting in financial analysis projects, reconciling US-based sub-recipients with General Ledger accounts, reviewing inter-department cash requests and journal entries, and preparing field office risk assessment reports. The Accountant will also assist with internal and external audit requests and ensure that all transactions maintain an appropriate audit trail.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a general knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices, and reporting guidelines. Familiarity with program specifics may also be beneficial. The Accountant should have a solid understanding of applicable information technology systems to meet deadlines effectively. The ability to compile, monitor, examine, and audit various financial statements and reports for accuracy and integrity is essential. Candidates should be able to draw conclusions and prepare written findings following GAAP and present recommendations supported by factual data. Proficiency in preparing financial reports and maintaining data integrity while recognizing and researching unusual activities is required. Strong communication skills are necessary to convey structured information clearly and concisely, tailored to the audience's needs. Establishing effective working relationships that foster organizational success is also a key qualification.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for performing the accounting functions expected in this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in providing outstanding customer service, performing complex activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts, and ensuring compliance with the company’s system of internal controls. Experience with computerized accounting software is mandatory, and proficiency in spreadsheet software is also required. Candidates should be articulate and professional, capable of communicating clearly and positively with clients and staff. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred, as is experience using the Microsoft Office Suite.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is required for this position. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.

The position is based in a typical office environment, with the ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen and performing repetitive tasks on a keyboard. Candidates should be able to sit and stand for extended periods and lift or move up to 5 lbs.
