Job Overview: The position of Engineer within the Information Management group at CERN is pivotal in contributing to the organization's digital engineering transformation. The successful candidate will be part of the CAD/PLM Service team, which is responsible for delivering the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system that manages millions of engineering assets and supports over 5,000 specialists. The role focuses on evolving CERN's engineering tools into a connected digital ecosystem, enhancing efficiency, and laying the groundwork for future 3D Digital Twins. The engineer will be expected to provide hands-on CAD/PLM expertise, resolve technical issues, and promote best practices within the team. Additionally, the role involves delivering training and workshops on Digital Engineering tools, translating user needs into functional requirements, and collaborating with developers to streamline engineering document management within the Digital Thread. The engineer will also analyze next-generation use cases, including 3D Digital Twins and AI capabilities, while supervising team members.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Providing hands-on expertise in CAD/PLM systems, addressing technical issues, and promoting best practices among users.
Ensuring reliable system performance for over 5,000 specialists by validating new features and functionalities.
Delivering training sessions and workshops on Digital Engineering tools to enhance user proficiency.
Translating user and organizational needs into functional requirements and collaborating with developers to implement these requirements effectively.
Streamlining engineering document management processes within the Digital Thread to improve efficiency.
Analyzing and developing next-generation use cases, including 3D Digital Twins and OpenUSD-based pipelines with AI capabilities.
Supervising team members and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess hands-on experience with major 3D design platforms such as CATIA V5, Siemens NX, PTC Creo, and/or AutoDesk Revit, Bricsys BricsCAD. Familiarity with Product/CAD exchange formats and 3D visualization standards (OpenUSD) is considered a plus. The ideal candidate should also have strong business analysis skills, including needs assessment, requirements gathering, and process modeling. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as experience in troubleshooting complex issues. The candidate should be a collaborative team player with mentoring and knowledge-sharing experience. Familiarity with NVIDIA Omniverse or similar 3D/virtual collaboration platforms would be advantageous.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to have a professional background in Engineering or a related field. Applicants must hold either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Experience: The level of experience required for this position varies based on the educational background. Candidates with a Master's degree should have between 2 to 6 years of relevant professional experience, while those with a PhD should have no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience. This experience should be in engineering or a closely related field, demonstrating a solid understanding of CAD/PLM systems and digital engineering tools.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language. This bilingual requirement ensures effective communication within the diverse team at CERN, which includes professionals from various linguistic backgrounds.
