Job Overview: The IUNV Humanitarian and Programme Coordination Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the Regional Office's work in humanitarian preparedness and response, as well as programme coordination. This position involves working closely with the Regional Humanitarian Advisor and the Regional Programme Coordinator to strengthen crisis preparedness and response efforts. The specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Emergency Policy and Procedures, coordinating regional crisis response meetings, and preparing humanitarian updates and documents for senior management. Additionally, the role includes supporting the development and submission of country programme documents, conducting analyses of these documents, and monitoring the implementation of regional programmes. The specialist will also facilitate the integration of climate work within development and humanitarian programmes, ensuring that UNFPA's initiatives are resilient to climate challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Humanitarian Preparedness and Response: Support the Regional Humanitarian Advisor in strengthening crisis preparedness and response teams, coordinating Regional Crisis response meetings, and ensuring timely follow-up on action points. Assist in the roll-out of UNFPA Minimum Preparedness Actions and prepare humanitarian updates and documents for senior management. Support the quality review of UNFPA country inputs into the Global Humanitarian Action Overview and facilitate the inclusion of climate work in humanitarian programmes.
Programme Coordination and Country Programme Development: Assist the Regional Programme Advisor in developing and submitting country programme documents and companion documents, conducting analyses of these documents, and planning Regional Programme Committee meetings. Monitor the implementation of the Regional Programme and maintain a knowledge management system for regional interventions and good practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in response to changing circumstances and possess excellent communication skills. A strong commitment to accountability and professionalism is essential, along with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks. Creativity and sound judgment in decision-making are also important qualities for this role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant experience in humanitarian response, programme coordination, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its procedures is an advantage, as is experience in crisis-affected contexts.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic or French would be considered an asset. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.
