Job Overview: The Deputy Manager – Dengue will play a crucial role in supporting and leading the implementation of dengue control initiatives across Latin America and the Caribbean. This position is designed to combine regional project leadership with hands-on technical and operational support to country teams. The Deputy Manager will act as the primary coordination point for CHAI’s dengue portfolio, focusing on strategic and operational support. Responsibilities include coordinating dengue-related activities, supporting country teams in planning and execution, and developing high-quality materials for donors. The role requires frequent travel and close collaboration with Ministries of Health and partners to ensure effective and sustainable dengue control interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Regional Coordination: Support the Senior Regional Manager in coordinating CHAI’s dengue portfolio across LAC, ensuring alignment with regional strategy and country priorities. Serve as the day-to-day regional dengue focal point, tracking progress and driving timely issue resolution. Represent CHAI in regional coordination platforms and strengthen cross-learning across dengue and malaria portfolios.
Strategy, Planning & Program Management: Translate regional strategy into executable country workplans with clear milestones and deliverables. Lead ecosystem planning and readiness management, maintaining trackers for regulatory, community engagement, and operations. Synthesize intelligence into recommendations and program outputs.
Field Implementation & Operational Support: Provide coordination support for Wolbachia deployments, ensuring alignment across teams and enabling troubleshooting. Oversee operations with Ministries of Health, ensuring alignment across procurement and implementation workflows. Support country execution through capacity building and stakeholder engagement.
Evidence, Surveillance & Data Use: Design monitoring frameworks to track program progress and strengthen data-driven decision-making. Document lessons learned and support regional knowledge sharing.
Budgeting, Grants & Reporting: Support budgeting and financial tracking across regional workstreams. Lead development of donor-facing materials and support proposal development for funding opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in fields such as public health, Entomology, Epidemiology, or Public Administration.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in project management, public health programs, or vector-borne disease initiatives. Experience working with government counterparts and multidisciplinary teams is essential.
Technical & Management Skills: Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills. Ability to learn technical content rapidly and translate it into operational guidance. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and comfort in dynamic environments.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with government partners and colleagues.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in public health, Entomology, Epidemiology, Public Administration, or a related field is required, along with relevant experience. A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable if accompanied by at least 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in project management, public health programs, or vector-borne disease initiatives is essential, along with experience working with government counterparts and multidisciplinary teams.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages being essential for the role.
Additional Notes: The position involves frequent travel across Latin America and the Caribbean, estimated at 40-60%.
