Job Overview:
The Curatorial Consultant for Museum Concept Development will play a pivotal role in the establishment of a Museum on the History of Uranium Mining in Tajikistan, located at the Mining-Metallurgical Institute of Tajikistan in Buston. This position involves leading the curatorial development and content production for the museum, ensuring that the narrative is coherent and aligns with the approved concept. The consultant will be responsible for producing high-quality museum content, overseeing the production process, and coordinating with various stakeholders, including designers and local authorities. The role requires a deep understanding of museum practices, particularly in the context of industrial heritage and uranium legacy, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups to ensure the museum meets its educational and cultural objectives. The assignment is expected to last for 60 days, with specific phases outlined for the development of the museum's design and content.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a series of tasks divided into four phases. In Phase 1, the consultant will participate in initial meetings to establish working methods and communication channels, conduct field visits to assess the museum site, and develop a draft Museum Design Concept that includes spatial zoning and visitor flow. Phase 2 involves finalizing the design concept package for endorsement, translating the storyline into spatial and graphic design solutions. In Phase 3, the consultant will develop detailed exhibition designs and production specifications, including layouts and accessibility elements, and prepare technical specifications for vendors. Finally, in Phase 4, the consultant will provide design supervision during the production phase, ensuring consistency and quality, and prepare a handover package for installation. Throughout the assignment, the consultant will work closely with the Project Officer and National Environmental Officer to ensure alignment with project goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in design, architecture, art history, visual communication, or a related field. A minimum of three years of professional experience in museum or exhibition design is required, with a strong emphasis on developing visitor experiences and visual identity solutions. The ideal candidate should have experience working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating design work both remotely and on-site. Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to prepare concise concept notes and presentations. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to gender awareness and sensitivity, and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Educational Background:
A first-level university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as design, architecture, art history, or visual communication is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the principles of museum design and the development of engaging visitor experiences.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in museum or exhibition design. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing visitor experience solutions and visual identity for exhibitions. Experience in collaborating with architects, engineers, and contractors is also essential, particularly in preparing production specifications and ensuring quality assurance throughout the design and production process.

Languages:
Professional fluency in Tajik and Russian is mandatory for this position, with strong oral and written communication skills. A working knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners.
