The United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) was established on May 29, 1948, following the United Nations security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council resolution 50 (1948). Its mission is to observe and maintain ceasefires and assist in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of the 1949 Armistice Agreements. UNTSO operates in five countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The organization is dedicated to promoting peace and security in the region through its peacekeeping missions and has a significant presence in the Middle East, working closely with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with international agreements and foster stability in conflict-affected areas.

Job Overview:
The Information Analyst, Political Affairs, plays a crucial role in supporting the Senior Advisor and the mission's strategic objectives. This position requires a deep understanding of the political and security landscape in the mission area, particularly in Lebanon. The analyst will conduct mid-to-long term trend analysis and support mission planning related to UNTSO's activities. The role involves collating and evaluating information to provide comprehensive analyses that inform senior leadership decision-making. The analyst will also be responsible for preparing reports, briefings, and other documentation that reflect the political and socio-economic developments in the region. This position is vital for ensuring that the mission's leadership is well-informed and able to make strategic decisions based on accurate and timely information.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Information Analyst will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the Senior Advisor in understanding political and security developments; conducting trend analysis; assisting in mission planning; providing analytical coverage of political and socio-economic factors; preparing and disseminating reports and assessments; supporting the Senior Advisor in briefing senior officials; fostering effective relationships with other UN components and external organizations; and performing other duties as required. The analyst will be expected to produce high-quality analytical products that integrate various perspectives and provide actionable recommendations for mission leadership. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with other UN entities and stakeholders to enhance the mission's effectiveness and ensure situational awareness.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent drafting and editing abilities, and the capacity to produce coherent reports. They should have experience in building information networks in complex environments and be able to integrate diverse perspectives into their analyses. The ideal candidate will also exhibit professionalism, effective communication skills, teamwork, and strong planning and organizational abilities. A commitment to gender perspectives and inclusivity in all areas of work is essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in political science, social sciences, international relations, law, public administration, economics, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Knowledge of the political landscape in South Lebanon and familiarity with UN Middle East peacekeeping missions is desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political or international affairs, political analysis, political journalism, development, or related fields is required. Experience in briefing senior officials on complex issues is desirable, as is experience in a political reporting unit or similar analytical capacity. Familiarity with data analytics and responsible data management to support decision-making is also advantageous. At least two years of work experience in or on the Middle East is preferred.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French and Arabic are desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level I in these languages. Proficiency in multiple languages is beneficial for effective communication within the UN system and with external stakeholders.

This position is temporarily available for six months with the possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a current UN staff member, the selection will be treated as a temporary assignment.
